My aunt is paying me to uninstall Vista and put XP on her notebook and I've been to hell and back trying to find the appropriate SATA drivers for it. It's a HP Pavilion dv6227cl. Could someone point me in the right direction?

Download and run CPU-Z to identify the exact SATA controller being used. Download the drivers for that exact controller from Intel, and then use nLite to create a slipstreamed XP SP2 w/ SATA disc. Install, and enjoy.

The problem with that is somehow Vista has activated the whole Reduced Functionality thing and I can't actually get to the desktop to run any sort of diagnostic program.

The notebookreview.com review implies that it has the nVidia 6150 chipset. HP has a very sparse set of XP drivers for this model but the Vista drivers include an nForce chipset driver.

You may find that you can extract the SATA driver from the nForce Vista package and use it for XP.

    Just a thought...may or may not work...but...

If you're not quite able to determine which specific SATA driver is required, and you opt to go the nLite route to build your custom-rolled XP installation CD, you can tell nLite to roll in *all* the drivers provided in the generic Intel Matrix Storage driver you can download from Intel. Chances are one of those will be detected and XP install will roll from there.

Guys, he has an AMD(nforce 430/6150go) based dv6000z notebook which means he can install XP and then go about installing the necessary drivers. Slipstreaming is optional, not required unlike the Intel based versions.
