Hello all,
I recently got fed up with Windows Vista and decided to install Windows XP on it. Since I have no beforehand experience on installing OS's on laptops I just formatted the partition and put my XP cd inside the dvd-drive.
I successfully installed XP using IDE-mode from BIOS but now lots of my hardware are missing drivers in device manager. I tried looking from Acer's driver support site but it only has Vista drivers there. Am I totally screwed here or is there a way to get the hardware working? Only thing thats working are the keyboard, mouse on USB and other USB ports... Not even broadband modem work since it don't have drivers installed.
I have another computer here so I can download drivers and put them on a memory stick. I tried googling on installing 'windows on aspire'. It came up with few installation guides for older aspire models. Suppose those drivers don't do any good for me?
Thanks for your help and time.

One option is to find a similar Acer model that was offered with XP and trying the drivers for it. I just did this on the Compaq F560 which had Vista, 512MB and was a dog performance wise. After I dumped Vista for XP, I was able to use the XP drivers for the Compaq V6000. They mostly worked except for the graphics driver which I found via google.

EDIT: Found a helpful thread on these forums! Didn't come up with search results when I first tried searching for help. I'm going to try installing drivers from this thread. I'll post results later!
Well I am now trying to install the RAID/AHCI Software - Intel® Matrix Storage Manager drivers to the laptop.
I put the AHCI mode on at BIOS and put the drivers on usb stick. Next I put my XP CD in the dvd drive and switched it first at the boot sequence. When the XP setup boots, and like the readme for the drivers say, I press F6 at the start of the XP setup to load custom SCSI drivers but nothing happens...
When the setup continues loading, it is saying that no mass storage devices can be found and that I need to load SCSI drivers... So I tried that and its telling there is no disk in floppy drive. (I don't even have floppy drive on the 5920G)
How the crap am I going to get the setup understand I have usb stick in USB port where the drivers are (it recognizes the stick as it is on the boot sequence list). The readme is no use because according to it XP setup would allow you to use usb stick as external 'floppy' -

By the way you might get more help in the Acer forum. -
I recently helped my buddy install XP on his Acer Aspire 5920G.
I made a PDF that walks you through the steps.
Grab it here: http://www.mediafire.com/?2cyotlwmx1l
Hope it helps -
o Sorry couldn't resist with that username.)
The PDF you created is great with easy to follow instructions on slipstreaming the SATA drivers into a Windows XP installation CD in order to install Windows XP onto the Acer Aspire 5920.
I had trouble finding the SATA driver though. The link in the PDF instructions point to Sata_Drivers.zip on notebookdriverdownload.com but unfortunately this file no longer exists. Could you post it somewhere else maybe?
For all other drivers, see the post Acer XP Drivers (for Vista-only Models?) which has a link to a Rapidshare folder which somebody has created to host a collection of all the necesary drivers.
If you have trouble downloading some of the drivers from there or you don't have a rapidshare account and can not wait for the free download time limits, you can find many of them from DriversDown.com (eg Acer Aspire 5920 Notebook CCD Suyin v.5.7.29.500-1 Windows XP/Vista x64 should get you started as you will find the rest in the "Drivers Related" links on that page)
Hope this helps the many trying to solve the problems on their Acers.
