I thought Windows 8 had native built in USB 3.0 Extensible driver support. You cannot install the USB Drivers if you download them, not even force install them. You need to diagnose the issue in a diff. way unfortunately or upgrade to Windows 7 if you can
I doubt the the Intel Chipset Software would fix that issue since they're not really drivers but rather just INF files to tell the OS to correctly identify the components. -
Your USB all use the Intel chipset, the drivers are the same as the Intel series 8 chipset drivers, the USB inf are included in there.
Power off your computer completely, remove the battery, let it sit for 30s, then power back on, install the latest series 8 chipset drivers and see what happens. -

If he had the Intel Chipset Drivers installed previously, then installing the new one would end as soon as the setup starts and you would notice it installed nothing. you need to use the -overall switch and run as admin via command prompt to install them comprehensively and properly
To ensure proper installation of the Intel Chipset Drivers in case you were not installing them for the first time after a format, do the following:
1) Copy the setup file to the root of C:\ then launch command prompt as admin
2) then type cd\ to go back to the root of C:\
Now the drivers will be installed completely because if you don't follow this method, then as soon as you run the setup regularly and hit next, you will notice that the installation completed and nothing happened.
NOTE: You MUST re-install the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Drivers after you install the Intel Chipset Drivers because the Intel Chipset Drivers usually install their own AHCI Controller so you have to reinstall the IRST Drivers again as they are better. -

For Intel Chipset Software, you need this for your chipset, then install using the method I posted above:

Ferris i have been installing windows for 25years from Windows 3.11 onwards , I use to work in a computer shop building system, I worked for 9 years building industrial computer for company's.
But there is still a lot to learn, I have tried that -overall command many times over the years though not with this computer because it says my computer is not supported, maybe HP has modded it somehow.

What is the possibility for you to do a system image now, then restore back to factory state to see if the issue is even with the factory image or a clean install? if it was still there, you can restore back to the image you created?
what do you think? Windows 8 doesn't give you much options to troubleshoot USB issues unfortunately?
on a side note, you did try another USB port right? like I know my laptop, one out of the 4 USB ports simply refuses to connect to my BlackBerry, although they're all USB 3.0 ports -

Yeah, i have an image using Acronis of my original hdd, for years when i buy a computer i pull the hdd and make an image of it, before i ever turn it on so i am covered, and i have had over a hundred notebooks so i have had a bit of practice.
My original OEM installation has the USB 3.0 disconnection problem as well, so i bought Windows 8.1 retail basically to do a clean install, and even clean installs have the USB 3.0 problem, so i thought it must be chipset or usb 3.0 drivers problem, but when i download the notebook series 8 chipset driver, i get the not compatible message.
Can i have the Intel USB 3.0 bug?
John. -
Possible could be that port set is damaged. Or no longer able to drive enough current through it.
Try using a powered USB 3.0 hub. -

I dont have a Powered USB hub, but most of the time, i can plug in a quality usb 2.0 hub with it own controller and i can get my tablet phone to work with the usb port that way.

That still sounds you need a powered hub. That quality hub is most likely hiding an issue.
Sounds like your device connected directly to the USB 3.0 could be requesting gibberish power usage which will cause random disconnects.
Not all USB 2.0 devices works correctly on the USB 3.0.
And sadly, some USB 3.0 devices (early 3.0 spec or poorly made.)Tinderbox (UK) likes this. -
I know that USB 3.0 and 2.4 GHz WLAN can interfere with each other, but I honestly don't know anything about the symptoms.
Maybe turn off WLAN on both devices and try again? Or at least on the phone, since it makes more sense. At least it's an easy test. -
The issue probably is the PC's USB port is trying, unsuccessfully, to connect the device at 3.0 speeds where 2.0 is the only device supported speed. When you use the 2.0 hub it forces the port to 2.0 speeds. The cure here may be either inn the devices hardware/firmware or the cable being used to connect the device. I had the reverse issue with a 3.0 device constantly reconnecting as it dropped to 2.0 speeds and then back up. It turned out if I held the USB plug in place firmly the connection was solid enough to stop the drop outs, so a new cable solved the issue.

Have you tried going into safe mode and plugging the devices in? Or just try plugging something in while its sleeping? It will help determine if it is driver related or hardware.
Help me find chipset and usb software to fix a problem
