hi everyone, well heres my problem...

i dished out alot of my hard earned money to pay for my laptop.. and i even waited a little longer to get a pentium M 2.0, and now that ive had is for a few months, ive noticed that my cpu speed has never reached higher then 1.5 !!

ive installed "Centrino Hardware Control" and to biggest multiplier is allows me to set is 15X = 1.5ghz .... everyprogram states my cpu as being a Pentium M 2.0Ghz, (right clicking my computer also confirms this).

so i gues my question is, How do i get my Pentium M 2.0Ghz to actually run at 2.0Ghz ?? is it a fault with my CHC ?? or do i have to change something??

    Please help me, anyone!!

    Thanks =)

    Sorry if I am being silly, but isn't it 15 x 133 clock speed = 1.995GHz.

Well im not sure! where are you getting the 133 from? (out of curiosity)

all i know is that it is set to 15X and on maximum performance, is sits on 1.50, never goes up.... i tried running battlefield2 + adaware + spybot + avast scan all at the same time and it never went higher then 1.5Ghz....

could it be anything to do with chipset drivers or something????

    Hmm, that is weird.

I just thought that the FSB was running at 133, (then again, the last time I looked into OC'ing and the such was a while back). I always thought it was FSBxClock = Processor speed. I know the newer Centrinos advertise 533mhz FSB, but I thought that was after DDR, etc, and that it was still 133xclock.

But then again, if CHC is saying that it is running at 1.5Ghz, then I would guess it is right...hmm, I dunno.

    EDIT:

Are you plugged into AC power? If not, plug it in and see if you can go higher than 1.5

15x would be 2 GHz. I have a 1.86, and my max multiplier is 14x, so the math works -- it is based on a 133MHz frontside bus.

Click the "CPU Speed" tab in CHC and set the profile to Dynamic Switching. Tht's what I use -- it makes the CPU run slower when you don't need all the power (i.e. heat), but jumps up when you do need it. Mine almost never goes above 800MHz, no matter what I'm running, so it's possible that you just have such a *****in system that it can handle Battlefield and everything else without going to full power.... :D

Thanx again for trying to help my guys! greatly appreciated!!!

    Im definately plugged in!

Now im thinking that my FSB is incorrect...is that possible ???

Heres what CHC says under the dynamic switching!

Min. Multiplier: 6x Min. Load: 40%
Min. Multiplier: 15x Min. Load 80%

and when i put it on "max Performance" is says this at the bottum..

    Clock: 1500Mhz Multiplier: 15x Voltage: 1.308v

HMM, just saw something interesting while i was writing this guys, in CHC under CPU Voltage, the highest voltage that i can choose in an option is 1.308v. but then i clicked on "Voltage information of Pentium M senoma" just under the testfields and is took me to a chart of processors and corresponding multipliers, voltages etc... im assuming the first one is the Pentium M2.1 and mine is the second, and from what i can see, my voltage should be able to go alittle higher !!!!!! could this have anything to do with it??

I wish this was it =) hehe

Please get back to me guys, i have no idea about voltages and multipliers etc....

EDIT: i've just seen something else very interesting !!!!!!!
Ive put it on Max performance right, so it should be on a 15x Multiplier, buts its NOT !!!! Under the CHC statis page, it is reporting the following!

    CPU Clock: 1499Mhz (11x)
    CPU Load: 2%

    CPU Voltage: 1.308v
    CPU Speed: Max Performance!

Now that is weird, 15x is enabled for me, but max performance onyl runs on 11x ????? WTF???

ok, i figured out what the problem is guys! its my FSB !!!

i ran CPU-Z and it says my FSB speed is 100mhz and therefore bus speed is 400MHZ (quad pumped) !! this is slower then it should be, cause i got the sonoma architecture and it sould be fbs = 133mhz !

how do i change my FBS ??? my bios has no available option !!

Now that's very weird. Are you sure it's a Sonoma? What brand of notebook is it? It sure sounds like there is some sort of glitch with the CPU, like it's been messed with to show that it operates at 2 GHz when in fact it's just a Dothan at 1.5 GHz.

Tell me about it, ithis is very weird!

It comes up as a Dothan Pentium M (760) which is the SONOMA (otherwise it would be 755) running with the correct multiplier (15x) but the wrong FSB speed !! im contacting the place i got it from now... lets see what they say!

    Hi everyone

i've been in contact with the store i got my laptop from and they have agreed to replace my lappy with a new one! i've opted for an ASUS z71v.

after they agreed to the replacement, they figured out what the deal was with the front side bus, it ended up being the jumper settings that were configured wrong. the jumper settings are located under the heatsink of the CPU and it can be set to take a normal dothan or the new dothans (400mhz or 533 mhz). Anyway, now i know, but im still happy im getting the ASUS, cause i hated the glossy finish on my other laptop and there was already a dead pixel =)

    So, problem resolved !!!

Thanks for trying to help though =)
