As the title says. I am still shopping for a laptop though. I needed something right away. Seems to work okay except the files I backed up to Western Digital My Passport on the old machine have been restored to the "new" machine somewhere where I can't find them, especially email and contacts. And if I find them I don't know how to integrate them to my new copy of Thunderbird because I don't know where it expects to find those files. The file hierarchy is a little weird and I find Windows 7 a little weird after Vista with the networking. I set it up with a "Home Group" even though I am the only one here and haven't purchased a router (yet). Actually I have no idea what I'm doing in this OS. I do't have a cord so I can plug in both the computers and transfer the files with "easy transfer"

Are you looking for help getting everything transitioned to your new computer? I can move this thread to the software forum for you if that's the case. Post back, let me know.

Did you read the Thunderbird migration instruction to say your contacts? If you didn't do this transfer then your email and contacts are gone. Thunderbird should connect to your email that you have linked to it and if the contacts are still on there it should populate back but if there was none saved on there but on the computer only then there are no contacts after your factore restore. To transfer between two computer you need a crossover Ethernet cable. But you should really go out and get the book called "Dummies for Windows 7" and read up on the new O/S to learn about it and use it. You can set HomeGroup without a network or internet needed. "Easy transfer" works only if your files was intact on the first machine not after you wiped and cleaned it there will be nothing to transfer and what your asking to do will not work for "easy transfer". -
I found the other files from my MyPassport restore but I think the contacts are gone. I don't have a plug to plug in my original computer; not sure if I have a crossover ethernet cable around here somewhere. I haven't wiped my old computer yet.
