For some reason I can't connect with my website server as I always have using Dreamweaver or CuteFTP Pro which are installed on my laptop.

However, I can using Filezilla as a portable app and the same laptop. I haven't a clue what changed.

Also, I was using a static IP but changed the properties to allow to obtain automatically, yet it always seems to log on using to what I set as the static IP.

Well, this doesn't make much sense.

WHAT webserver? Your own, or a host?

And the IP thing....is this the same problem or a different? You cannot obtain an ftp server's ip address automatically with an FTP client. That doesn't make sense.

    Please clarify.

FTP... isn't there something called passive FTP? Maybe Filezilla automatically uses it and Dreamweaver doesn't?

I had issues with my account on the maths server and adobe contribute - and it took fiddling around with...

But still, doesn't explain why it stops working...

It's a friends web server he rents it from someone else for a large forum.

    CuteFTP error..
No the IP problem isn't the same as the FTP problem and I have no clue as to if it's related.

    Sounds like a firewall issue.

Portable apps don't register with Windows Firewall and thus don't have firewall exceptions, unlike installed apps.

But I have Comodo and all FTP apps are set to a custom rule I made.

Maybe they made some changes on the server. Still don't know why Filezilla would work.

I'm not familiar with Comodo's interface, so I can't comment.

Back to the ip--WHAT is using the same ip...your computer? What are you logging into? The computer? On your home network?

When you set a static IP address, what was it? What were you trying to accomplish? What is your dhcp range? How many computers are on your network?

You're not terribly forthcoming or clear with the info. Don't make us play 20 questions if you want help.

gerry, since I was totally at a loss, I wasn't sure what info to include.

However, I'm not exactly sure why but, I was able to fix the FTP problem.

I recently moved as did my ISP from Bellsouth to AT&T. In the switch and new configuration, I needed to reset my router. (lost settings, old firmware) I flashed my router to the newer firmware and all's well.

I also had to reconfigure my static IP and forward several ports, so I'm assuming that problem has also corrected itself if I revert to automatically obtain IP.
