    Hi,

Can someone please help me with my situation.

I bought a new Gateway T 6859U laptop and the hard drive crashed.

I have an old HP DV4000US laptop that has issues and does not stay on for long.

Is it possible to remove the hard drive from the HP notebook and put it in the Gateway notebook?

Also, the gateway did not come with a recovery CD. It has Windows Vista running. What do i need to do in order to restore the OS and the drivers?

    Please help.

    Thanks in advance!

It might not work (IDE and SATA swap). You do need a Vista installation disk for the OS, drivers you can pick them up from Gateway support.

    cheers ..

It probably won't work. Windows installations will refuse to reboot if something major like a motherboard is switched out on them. It's an anti-piracy feature. More than likely you'll have to reinstall to allow the installation to switch laptops.

    I hope it works out.

If it's a new laptop why not call Gateway and have it repaired? You'll be more sorry if you messed up the brand new Gateway. Go with the simpliest solution.. call Gateway!

That's the best advice anyone can give. Why deal with a problem on a new notebook - use your warranty!
