I am a college student living in a dorm. I have been connected to the internet for about a week using a Lan wire through a mini hub. Obviously I am connected to the internet; however, quite frequently this message pops up asking me to connect to a broadband network and gives me a spot for a username and password. So I gave it a try with blanks for each. After that another window pops up saying connecting through WAN miniport (PPOE). IT then says error connecting to Broadand connection. IT says Error: 815 and I think the basic point of the error is the remote serves is not responding and the service name field may not be correct. I don’t think anyone on my floor has had this problem and I never had this problem last year with XP. The weirdest part is that I am using the internet and obviously connected, does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance for the help.

Have you looked in your connection settings in your browser?

It may be trying to connect using a service that requires a log-in.

Go to Control Panel -> Internet Options

Then click on the Connections tab, do you see any PPPOE connection listed in the box? If yes, just remove it. If you don't want to remove it, look under the box and select Never dial a connection.
