Hi all i have just purchased a hp dv6614tx centrino duo 2.0ghz, 2gb Ram and it is loaded with vista. I have decided that i feel most comfortable with using xp and would like to install that instead of vista. i have all the drivers for the laptop on a cd, i have XP home and SP2 cd, and also i have the hp recovery discs burnt onto a dvd so with all that im ready to go and install xp. Will someone please give me as much advice as possible to help me achieve this or run me through it. THANKYOU in advance for your help.

ps. my local computer store (the biggest in my area) the guy in the service department tried telling me it was impossible to downgrade. i dont beleive im.

Exact same machine here, just wanted people to know the instructions work.

Got the driver pack v1.10 here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=6R56CI5E

This place is good for more information about messing around with a xp disc if you want to go beyond what nLite can do: http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/1/

Not much in the way of problems, except I have been unable to locate working drivers for the webcam and something simply labelled "PCI Device" (silly me for not paying more attention to the device manager before starting) which I suspect is the expansion port.

Anyway, I'll keep looking, unless somebody already knows and can tell me. Anyone here smart enough to write down details of their hardware before formatting or still running vista on this?

I think posting them here instead of emailing me would be more useful to other dv6614tx owners who also want to switch to xp.

Also, I pretty much just slipstreamed the drivers (all of them, from the driver pack) and made it bootable, according to the instructions, then added my own tweaks. After that, I just tried to install every driver. This place has a good number of screenshots: http://www.nogodforme.com/HPDV6500T.htm

That's when I encountered my problem. From what I've read so far, I don't think I'll be trying to install linux any time soon. :(

thankyou i have successfully installed xp on the laptop using the guide, to help you with your problem, in your device manager right click on the pci slot and click update driver and it should search for a driver from the net and automatically install it, it worked for me.
