Basically, I want the background of the Icon name to blend into the background. For example, on my XP laptop, the ICON has a blue background behind the lettering.

But, on my XP desktop, the Icon just blends into the background.

How do I get it to look like this ^

In Control Panel, select System, then click on the Advanced tab, then the Settings button in the Performance section, then select the Visual Effects tab, and scroll down until you find this entry: "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop" and check it. Afterwards, click Ok or Apply and it should change.

You have to activate dropshadowing for desktop icons. Right now, with it turned off, the icon's background just shows the desktop's background color (which is blue, even though your desktop wallpaper is gray  ...don't ask about the logic of having two settings, it's Microsoft for ya! ;) :p )

To activate drop shadowing, open the Control Panel, click System, click the Advanced tab, then click Settings in the Performance section. In the dialog box that opens, check the “Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop” checkbox. Finally, click OK until each window/dialog box is closed.

    Hope this helps, Ricky :)
