    Hey guys,
Ive got a problem, only when i want to watch SOME .wmv video files it'll open up in either Windows Media Player 9 or Media Player Classic as a bright green, orange and other funcky colors. Most other videos work fine though.

I have Windows Media Player 9, Media Player Classic 6.4.9.0, Quicktime Alternative, and i have installed the Combined Community Codec Pack (if anyone knows what that is).

Any suggestions on how i can correct this? .... im not very fond of anyhting windows and would prefer not to upgrade WMP.... i was hoping there may be other options... if that would even correct it in the first place.

    Thanks!

It's most likely the Codecs that are installed.

I'm NOT an expert, but I dealt with this problem many times on my dell desktop using windows ME.

My experience is that anything can cause it, a corupt video file, ending a player without stopping vid, Mem Issues(most common). etc: etc:

Try doing a scandisk on reboot. (the default scandisk that runs when you unproperly shut down your pc) ie: take cord and battry out without turn off power. Scandisk will run afterwards.

Scandisk has usaully solve the problem, and uninstall the codec too.

I really don't remember how I use to fix this as this was years ago, but scandisk is the only simple way I remembere for now.

P.S, why do you have old verisions running? Upgrading might also fix it too.

Yeah, it's almost certainly a codec problem. Go get yourself the K-Lite codec pack. It handles **** near everything.

A friend had the same issue with WMP 9. Updating codecs didn't help. An upgrade to WMP 10 solved it for him, which you stated isn't something you want to do.

I stay with CCCP Codec. Just reinstall it and get VLC player as a backup. That plays corrupt and broken video files.

I gave a solution to someone a few months ago who had the same problem you have, however part of the suggestion was to install WMP 10 so I don't know if you want to do that (reading your first post):

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=1460582#post1460582

I don't know how to fix the problem in WMP9 but what you could do is do the following:

    1. Download WMP10 from here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/2/A/12A31F29-2FA9-4F50-B95D-E45EF7013F87/MP10Setup.exe

    2. Update it with this patch to address the problem: http://download.microsoft.com/downl...aeda0f63a/windowsmedia10-kb898549-x86-enu.exe

Doing some research points to the solution above as a fix to stop video from appearing green or orange.

    I hope this helps.

I updated my video driver, downloaded the latest CCCP, and it still doesnt work. So it looks like my last choice is to update WMP to version 10. I just remember upgrading on an old computer and not liking it at all. But that was a long time ago too. Does anyone know the differences between version 9 and 10? Make me feel better about upgrading it. Thanks!

i'd say conflict between the codecs and your driver. uninstall the codecs and leave them uninstalled. then uninstall and reinstall your video drivers. you don't need codecs anyways. and if you do, just get VLC Player, it'll play anything you throw at it without the need to download additional codes (which you should be leary of as you've now learned)
