    Hi,

I am using a DELL D620 running WinXP Home SP2 Edition.

When the OS try to go into standby mode, it pops up a message box indicating that it fails to do so because the Generic USB Hub device prevents it from entering standby.

What can I do to make the system enter standby? The only USB device attached is the in-built modular DVD drive.

Attached is a screen capture of the popbox message box.

If you can't find an updated driver, here's a thought.

Go into control panel-----> system-----> Hardware-----> Device Manger

The "Generic USB Hub" entry should be under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers".

Go into the properties dialogue for each entry in this heading and make sure none of them say "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby". Also check for "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

My computer has the power radio button checked for these items, and my machine is working fine. However, none of them can pull the computer out of standby. That is what I believe is causing this.

After playing around with what you've recommended, only the Modem has the capability to bring the computer out of standby. However, that is not the cause.

Sometimes back, I've updated the driver of the SmartCard Reader. So I attempt to rollback to previous one and the problem disappears.

After that I update the driver from the MS website again and it still works. Seems that this update is different from the previous update(which does not work).

It is resolved now. Thanks for your help. Otherwise, I will not even make an attempt to try it out. :)

I know drivers can be a big issue. When I got my laptop I updated all the drivers I could. However, I started getting BSODs. I went through and uninstalled/reinstalled one-by-one. I found out that the new audio driver MS was distributing is unstable on my computer. I restored the packaged driver and life was/is good again.

    I'm glad you're back to normal. :)
