My brand new T61 just won't shutdown. When I click "start" "Turn off Computer", the system basicly hangs. However, I can shut down the system with no problem by doing ctrl+alt+del, then turn off or restart the computer from drop-menu. But it still takes quite a bit of time staying at "shutting down windows xp", around 3 mins.
I checked my event viewer. There are a couple of warnings and the messages are shown below:

    Userenv
"Windows saved user ***/*** (my user name) registry while an application or service was still using the registry during log off. The memory used by the user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded when it is no longer in use.

This is often caused by services running as a user account, try configuring the services to run in either the LocalService or NetworkService account.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at "

    and
    Application error
"Faulting application , version 0.0.0.0, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00000000."

Any help would be really appreciated!

I would suggest you use services.msc and disable as much as you can from loading. See if you can isolate anything that may stop the shutdown from working

For the first error, do a Start--> Run and type services.msc and hit enter. Under the "Log On As" column, click on it to sort it. Look to see if there is any service that has your user name there. If there is go into the properties of the service and change it to either LocalService or NetworkService account. Under the Log On tab choose "This Account", then Browse--> Advanced--> Find Now, select either LocalService or NetworkService account then ok and restart the service. Then restart the computer.

Edit: BTW, what are the event ID # and Source for the error in Event Viewer?
