Need a little help here. My laptop wont go to standby or hybernation mood when i leave on (no matter how long i leave it on), unless i close the lip or choose standy from the start menu. I have disabled some services and startup programes before but its been a long time i dont remember which ones. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this? what services in VISTA handles standby and stuff? Apart from services or startup programs, what other things could cause this????
    Thanks

I've never used Vista before, but I would guess something in POWER MANAGEMENT. Not sure whether Vista has that or not.

For the record, I'm experiencing the same problem, albeit in XP.

Further, if I manually go to standby then come back into my desktop and let the screensaver activate, the screensaver won't go off unless I manually go back into standby and come out again. Also, my 'dj control panel' (the volume buttons) stopped working suddenly.

MrCompletely, yours appears worse than mine. screensaver wont even show up? Well i hope we get some HELP here....See i left my computer oneday in a haste and went to class, only to come back and see my friends invading every little data, i dont even know if they have copies of my sensetive pictures with my gf. Now i make sure to close the lid, but ultimately the problem should be fixed..

Have you played with the sleep settings in the power options menu?
