I have had serious problems with my Satellite. The first is the internet. It struggles with maintaining speeds. If I am uploading or downloading, many times it kicks my router offline or shuts down the net entirely. I know it is my laptop because I try the same tasks on my desktop and they work fine. I am wondering if it is my wireless client because I have not been able to update it.

Basically, I have no real way to update this laptop because the windows updates do not work. I am running Vista Home Premium.

svchost also seems to crash a fair amount for me.

Maybe try plugging it in via Ethernet. If that's possible. Also run some virus and malware scanners. Worst comes to worst, backup your data and do a clean install.
