As mentioned before, I just got a Dell e1405 and am having some document conversion problems. This time it is plain old Microsoft Word documents: some of them have overlapping words--as if typing over eachother--when I open them in WordPerfect 12. What's up with that?
In particular, the problem is arising with a bibliography: when I write a book and tab the second line of the entry, it seems to over-write that onto the first line when I open it in WordPerfect.
Any ideas other than go through the document(s) and fix them manually?

Go to corel website and download all the patches and updates especially sp3.
http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satell...&pname=WordPerfect+Office+12+Standard+Edition -
I downloaded and installed SP3 first and then downloaded 1 and 2, which didn't want to install--perhaps because SP3 includes them both?
Regardless, there was no change.

you have to install sp1 first, then sp2 and last sp3. it should be in order. otherwise it will not work and you'll encounter installation problems.
-
So what do I do? Is there anyway to uninstall a service pack?
When you wrote "especially sp3" it implied that the first two aren't absolutely necessary, which it seems that you are (now) saying they are. -
Try to check "add and remove" panel and if you can see sp3 update for corel then uninstall it. if there is none, then you just have to uninstall and reinstall your corel.
I suspect that did note completely updated your wp12 since sp3 requires wp12 with sp1. so you have to really install sp1 and better yet also install sp2.
when i said "especially sp3" i did not imply that the others are not absolutely necessary but what i mean is that sp3 supposed to be the one that addresses your problem. but installing sp3 will require you to install sp1.
please also read the documentation in corel's website before installing. it won't take much of your time.
let me know if it works.

Okay thanks--and I appreciate your time, Qohelet (nice Korzybski quote, btw).
I found out that there is no uninstall feature for SP3; why, I don't know--but it was on the download site.
But at the risk of sounding like a total nimrod, when you say uninstall and then reinstall Corel, are you talking about the entire WordPerfect program? If so, do I have to do anything like save my files on a CD? Or will reinstalling Corel/WordPerfect not effect them? -
Yeah when i say reinstall and uninstall, i mean the entire corel word perfect 12. it's always a must to backup your files especially important ones. however, unistalling wp12 will not in any way delete your wp12 documents. but you will not be able to open them not until you install again your wp12.
btw, i've been using word perfect for almost 8 years. i prefer it better than microsoft word.

OK, I reinstalled WordPerfect, but it still won't let me install service pack one. This is what it says when I try:
"The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch."
I have WordPerfect 12; the patch is called "WP12SP1E".
Any ideas? -
Try rebooting your system first and install sp1.
what edition of word perfect 12 you are using? -
12.0.0.391
Is that what you mean by edition? It is what was pre-installed on the computer I just bought, so I assume it is the latest edition.
Anyways, the original issue doesn't seem to be that much of a problem--it was only one document and I fixed it. Of course I wouldn't mind getting these service packs installed... -
According to the site, your version will only allow you to install sp3 and that's all. you don't need sp1 and sp2 since it is already included in sp3.
Here's another conversion problem: Word 2002 to WordPerfect 12
