Ok so about 10 days ago for some messed up reason every time I would resume from hibernate, the computer would boot up fine, I would see the resuming windows logo and when it gets to the logon screen it is just black. I can type in the password and hear the login sound but there's no display. I don't know what's causing this. I initially thought that installing the Nvidia beta drivers messed it up because that's when it started happening, but after downgrading to older drivers it's still happening.

first thing i do on a new lappy is delete hibernate as more trouble than its worth pluss it saves over 2gb storage space.

firstly can you boot into safe mode F8 on startup (or whichever key your lappy uses) and see anything on screen.

a quick fix would be this: easiest way to reset it is to turn of lappy and remove power lead and battery. hold power button down for 20-30 seconds.
then remove base plate and find cmos battery. carefully remove it and then replace it. put back together and everything should be hunky dorey.
if not then we need to dig deeper.

Why delete hibernate? I always use it because I need my stuff open for the next day. Sleep doesn't cut it because of the stupid lighting on the laptop. This is not a new laptop also btw its nearly 2 years old. Also I'm not sure if this is a hardware problem it seems to be more of a software problem. I guess I'll just go ahead and reformat soon, it's long overdue anyway.

read it again. i said first thing (I DO) as its caused nothing but problems on other laptops and i never use it anyway.

then read the next bit and answer what i asked as this can solve it.

Its usually drivers that fail to wake up. Maybe keep trying other drivers?

I always use hibernate to have things open.

The first thing to do is to make another power plan and make it the default.

I dunno. Unless you plan on keeping your laptop off for a week at a time, sleep is just fine. But if your laptop has bling that won't turn off, then yeah I can understand it being an issue/concern. Of course first thing I would do is cut power to that bling because it's wasting valuable battery even if it doesn't bother you.

Did you do a clean install of the nVidia drivers?
