Will using hibernate, sleep, or shut down extend the life of my laptop by any significant amount? Whats the real difference between them?

Hibernate is like shutdown except your computer turns on faster. Sleep is technically still on in a power saving state with again a faster recovery. Shutdown is shutdown.

I suggest using shutdown as ive noticed response and performance issues from the other two.

i agree if you're going to bed, etc, use shutdown. If just for an hour or so, I tend to use sleep. But it's all a personal preference. And as sated, there are a from few issues coming back sleep- BSOD, sometimes, but they'll get it worked out........

I only ever shutdown my laptop when I'm away from it for a couple of days. the rest of the time I use sleep. My laptop has been running like this for 6 months now and it seems to work for me.
