When coming out of hibernation in Windows 7, I get the following error message:

"Your system's firmware did not preserve the system memory map across the hibernation transition. If you proceed with resume, your system could behave in an unexpected manner after resume completes. It is recommended that you save all your data and reboot after system resume finishes. Kindly check for a firmware update with your system vender as it may fix this problem."

Windows 7 continues to resume and I have not noticed any problems once it resumes.

I am dual booting Vista 64 bit and Windows 7 64bit on an HP DV3510NR. I have the latest bios version for my system dated May 2009.

I have no problem resuming from hibernation using Vista. I have another slightly older HP that I am also dual booting with Vista 32bit and Windows 7 64bit. I am not having any problem with hibernation on that machine. I used the same Windows 7 image to install on both.

Any thoughts on how to go about solving this? Could it be something with the installation itself? Could reinstalling Windows 7 possibly fix this?

Windows 7 is currently still not complete. Your problem would most likely be fixed once the finished retail version comes out.

Yeah, that crossed my mind also. It's just that on the two other computers that I have installed win7, hibernation works without problems (or without telling me there's a problem). I guess there is something about my newest laptop that it just does not like.

    Could reinstalling fix it? Maybe.

Did you install your Vista drivers and notebook software, or did you just let 7 find and install drivers?

I Let win7 find and install driver. I used Driver Max to verify the drivers.

The error message referred to the system firmware. I am taking that to mean bios. Is that a correct assumption?

I think I am going to try to reinstall.

Is there a BIOS update available for your laptop? If so, install it and see if you continue to have issues with hibernation.

There was a bios update in May 2009. Prior to installing Win 7, I applied the latest bios update.

I tried reinstalling win7 and that did not solve the problem. I still get the same error message but win 7 continues to resume and there does not appear to be any problems.

Would there be any merit to flashing the bios again from within win7? I know it is not the best way to flash the bios.

Or should I just accept this as a RC issue and wait for MS and/or HP to fix it?

Try doing another install, but use the Vista drivers provided for your laptop instead of letting Windows 7 find and install drivers. Or, just download the Vista drivers for your laptop, then install them over the top of the Windows 7 installed drivers.
