Use Automatic Completion of Directory or Path for Command Prompt in Windows Vista
An old registry tip from Microsoft Technet articles that is very useful in everyday Geek computing.
If you open CMD and go to a directory, e.g. cd\windows, instead of typing the complete word "windows" type "win" + TAB. It will automatically search for the word and display the first value.

Scanning the Integrity of All Protected System Files
Windows Vista is still accessible but some programs are not working properly, very slow, it stops responding and sometimes hangs. Maybe some System files has been modified.
Run the following commands:
sfc /verifyonly - Scans integrity of all protected system files. No repair operation is performed.
If there is an error message occurs, repair all the affected system files by running
sfc /scannow - Scans integrity of all protected system files and repairs files with problems when possible.

How to Open Network Connections Window easily
Despite Microsoft is making networking much easier in Windows Vista, they made it very difficult to open your network connections list or Window. Here's a quick solution:
type ncpa.cpl and press enter. That's it!!!![]()
*I have another. To put a shortcut of Network Connection window on desktop,
Create a folder called
Network Connections.{7007ACC7-3202-11D1-AAD2-00805FC1270E}
Simple isn't it?![]()
Kill 'Em All
Metallica? Nope...
Got tired of closing all applications one by one. Especially those unstable ones! Here's a Tip to Kill 'Em All at the same time. e.g. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Windows Media Player...
![]()
Method 1
This is the easiest method but it's limited: PressCTRL >Click the Programs in the Taskbar >Right-Click >Close Group. That's it!
Method 2
1. Open the Notepad and Task Manager (Ctrl-Shift-Esc)
It's too long! Read here

Adding Entries to Computer, Internet Explorer, Network and Start button Context Menu (Right-Click Menu)
How? Just Open WinBubble > Miscellaneous Tab > Choose and click which button you'll use > Type the name of the application and locate the program by clicking the Browse button. That's it!
Note: In Internet Explorer, Permission must be set first and the added Entries will become the default application that will open instead of IE.
Manually Adding the Entries (Windows Vista and XP):
1. Open the Regedit.exe and expand the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
2. These are the location of Context Menu Customization settings:
Computer: CLSID\{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}\shell
Internet Explorer: CLSID\{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}\shell
Network: CLSID\{F02C1A0D-BE21-4350-88B0-7367FC96EF3C}\shell
Start Menu: Directory\Shell
3. Create a folder inside the path above. The folder name is the one that will be seen in the context menu.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}\shell\Open WinBubble
4. Add another folder named "command", double click "(Default)" and enter the location of the file. You can use a command-line parameter or switch in executing the application.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}\shell\Open WinBubble\command

Simple Ways to Tweak your Network and Internet Connections
"WinBubble will start the idea of simplicity combined with knowledge. Everyday, WinBubble features will be explained and dig"
There are many ways to enhance and speed up your Internet Connections: upgrade your Internet access service to a much bigger bandwidth or find another provider which speeds up everything, find the nearest node (for DSL lines), upgrade your networking equipment, and by performing some tweaks that offer ways to potentially enhance your network connections in Windows Vista.
DNS Tweaks:
Simple Ways to Tweak your Network and Internet Connections - Part 1
According to Microsoft, "WinInet limits the number of simultaneous connections that it makes to a single HTTP server. If you exceed this limit, the requests block until one of the current connections has completed. This is by design and is in agreement with the HTTP specification and industry standards."
Speed me up! I don't want to follow that agreement

Hello! This week I'll digg more about WINSAT:
1. To view the Performance ratings or WEI subscores of Windows Vista computers inside the network:
Create a simple Vb****** program
Sorry, I have some difficulty in creating a guidelines here so,
just open the link for the complete guide.
2. Hack your WEI scores!
WinSAT saves the scores in a XML file located in the Windows\Performance\WinSAT\DataStore folder. Each time you perform benchmarking using WinSAT, it creates a new XML file and stores it in this folder. All you have to do is to open the latest XML file and edit it using WORDPAD.
Fun stuff: Modify your WEI score and show it to your friends just for fun.
CONS: Computer stores may trick their customers by editing the WEI scores. So, be careful! Always, check them by Re-running WinSAT.

another: if you want to concentrate the resources of one cpu (for multiple cpu like core2duo,coreduo,quadcore,etc) into 1 application. very useful especially for anti-virus programs which contains more resources.
taskmanager->"your apps"->RIGHT CLICK->set affinity->choose 1 cpu.
From Ninjanoodles:
Most people probably know this one, but to access the Task Manager without going through the new Ctrl+Alt+Del screen, press Ctrl+Shift+Esc
everyweek i'll post...If you have some secrets that you can share. Please share with us! -
for best performance, you should not set affinity. You should only use it for compatibility reasons (because some games can't handle if they're not run consistently on the same core all the time) -
Ok...That's true in some programs(I agree)...but some programs needed this tweak to improve performance...I will try to post list of programs that has a good performance if this tweak is used...Please wait...SORRY i'm doing something with my work...i'll try to finish this as soon as possible. But if you have some time. PLEASE help me put some examples of apps that has a better performance if this tweak is used. better performance only...thank you...
for the mean time recently, i found a website that used this tweak.luckily, i found it. http://www.itwire.com/content/view/14572/1127/
I agree...That's true in some programs...ok i will post later for applications.Sorry im busy with my work.for the meantime,I'll will refer you to this website, luckily i found it quickly. http://www.itwire.com/content/view/14572/1127/. Maybe if you have time, please help me put a list of apps...Thanks! or anybody please help...
Here's another...from a famous computer website. http://www.tomshardware.com/2004/05/28/getting_more_bang_out_of_your_dual_processing_buck/index.html
I hope this helps...sorry i'm running out of time with my work. -
And he's saying the exact opposite of you, that it *limits* the amount of resources a program uses. If you set thread affinity on it, it uses only that core, which obviously means that it can't use all your system's resources. Whereas if you don't set affinity, it'll use as much CPU time on as many cores as it's capable of.
However, if you're worried about your system being responsive (which is what he's after), you should lower priority instead of setting affinity.
So for performance, never set thread affinity.
For overall responsiveness (conserving resources so they're available for other apps) lower priority
Only ever set affinity for compatibility problems, programs that don't run properly on multicore systems otherwise.
And yeah, I've read the tomshardware article before too. But it focuses on hyperthreading, and it is only meant to overcome the performance problems that HT causes in some applications. if you check their benchmarks, it doesn't actually improve performance, it just lets them selective "disable" (or avoid using, anyway) hyperthreading specifically in the applications that don't handle it well. -
That's Correct also, some of the programs do not support dual core systems.
BUT...
How about Tom's Hardware? It is a famous website with complete Benchmarks etc...please see this http://www.tomshardware.com/2004/05/28/getting_more_bang_out_of_your_dual_processing_buck/index.html
Thanks!
Here's an info from Toms Hardware. "boosts performance for some applications. While the benchmarks may have recorded a few seconds of time saved, that could translate into two-and-a-half hours over the course of a particular day.
Some applications, however, may run more slowly. You have to find out for yourself if our utility will help you in your own situation - the only way to find the right settings is by trial and error."
Anyway, SOME programs only... i'm sorry next post i will make a details...anyway thanks. -
here's another info from wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Processor_affinity
I hope you get what I am trying to explain...By carefully managing your resources...Thanks!
in SOME applications...NOT all... -
Ciprah_kapa
Please use the EDIT button on the bottom right corner of the post if you want to add some more information. Do not make new posts just to add a couple of lines...this is not an instant messaging system. -
Unless you're running a P4 with Hyperthreading, you don't need to worry about that.
The best way to manage your resources is to allow processes to use *any* available CPU, instead of artificially limiting them to only one core. -
Anyway, This is a good topic to be discussed more further...If I have a time, I will prepare some examples(data with benchmarks) to support. Sorry for that multiple reply,i'm a newbie in notebookreview forums.
Please more reply here...This thread is only for windows hidden secrets/tips and tricks.
if you have some...please share. -

You really don't need to yell "REP ME REP ME" in every one of your posts. If you want to share Vista tips, then fine, do that. But people will rep you up if they think you deserve it, regardless of how much you want it. Personally I'm more inclined towards repping people who are helpful *without* doing it just to get rep.
-
who really cares about repping..it's not like it's going to help you graduate any quicker or earn a bonus at work or get extra points with the wife....but thanks for the help...
forget the repping..people tend to rememeber user names and next time you have a question...people remember and answer back to the best of their ability...I think that's the real positive of these boards -

Last week, I created a DVD movie (family videos) with Windows Vista DVD maker. When I tested it, the video looks blur. I thought there's something wrong with the DVD region, but the solution is so simple that I didn't noticed it...so I want to share it, maybe so simple but It took 5 DVDs for me to burn the correct settings. hahaha! (i am so dumb during that day). here's the complete guide.
Important settings that you must check before creating a Dvd movie:
1. Hardisk space, you must have a free space for temporary files that are created when making a DVD. (At least 5gb)
2. Video format: NTSC or PAL, check this options after adding the files into the Windows DVD Maker.
3. DVD aspect ratio: 4:3 (standard) or 16:9 (widescreen), if you did not set this option, video files in a widescreen format will be stretch if the standard setting is used (4:3) and vice-versa. -

This is not intended to be an insult. I know that you don't have to speak English to develop software, but the general population probably doesn't understand that. Just some constructive criticism. You might want to find someone to edit your website. -
Interestingly enough, some of the brightest minds I know when it comes to computer science can hardly speak verbally to someone else; however, the general public doesn't understand that. Stallen may be right when it comes to having a buddy check your grammar when hosting a website.
In the world today, like it or not, your first appearance counts...and now-a-days, first appearance includes the internet too. -
-
Nice website. Bookmarked it.
-
Thanks for the Good Comments guys, I'm going to FIX my mistake in grammar...
Anyway, the Software is FREE...
The truth is...I am working in a big company NOT related to IT. But since high school and College, computers and electronics is my passion...
