I tried the Hide IP thing, and now it says I'm from Saudi Arabia as well, however, I'm now unable to access a number of websites, and I get a message in Arabic about how I dont have permission to view the page. I uninstalled it, but firefox keeps using the proxy IP, and reverts to that even after I switch it manually. Any idea how to fix that?

I use JAP software, to hide my IP.
VERY Easy setup, as long as you follow directions to the tee.
I ONLY use it with FireFox.
Most of the time I surf with FF(hidenIP) and IE7 (NO proxy).

Works very well with the FireFox SwitchProxy Tool.

It just hate when Google detects and shows me a Danish Google. LOL Easily fixed tho.

You can download JAP at Snapfiles.com

    IP Blocking for P2P, eh?

PeerGuardian 2 is my favorite for Windows.

MoBlock is (the only??) IP blocker for Linux.

What are you guys so paranoid about? :p

I would only hide my IP if I wanted to use my connection at work to surf the web. If you're at home and you use some ISP, there's not much hackers can do with your IP alone.

Gator - its not about hackers, its about blocking the ISP so people don't get caught filesharing. RIAA/MPAA keeps people on their toes!

There's only one person who's ever been convicted for using bittorrent to share. And Bittorrent makes up most Internet traffic any more.

Hmmm interesting, I didn't know the RIAA use this method to track filesharing of copyrighted content. Can those guys force the ISP to release private information on its clients? I know there's some legal wrangling going on. If the ISP does release confidential info, wouldn't that be bad for both their business reputation and violate some privacy laws to boot---this probably wouldn't fall under the Patriot Acts.

Basically, agencies can request or subpoena the information from your ISP (internet address, when online, what other addresses connected to, etc.). Most if not all of our agreements with ISPs now state that they can share this data - if you don't agree, you get no service. The ISPs' current thinking is that since it's their information and data, it's their's to do with what they wish. They cannot turn over emails, chats, etc. without a subpoena, I believe. But the basic stuff they can and do share right now.

The ACLU and the EFF are both engaged in cases regarding this. Here's an article from today's Washington Post:

If you live in my neighborhood, I can buy almost any kind of information about you, absolutely legally. Republicans and Democrats have significant funds for such purposes when they their "estimates" before elections.

Yes I use Peer Guardian 2 also. Seems to work well without creating issues with other programs.
