I want to hide and encrypt the files (some of the folders) in my 1 TB external HDD. Is there any good software out there? If some of you guys using it. I am very confused by googling it because there are lot of software's and it is making me confuse.

Also, When I hide and encrypt some folders in my external drive in my laptop I want to be sure it is fully hidden and encrypted when someone uses my external HDD in their laptop's also.

Please, It'd be very sweet of you guys if someone suggest me any best software out there.

TrueCrypt is probably the best software out there.

But, It creates a new volume and takes up space. I have 350GB free space somewhere in my 1TB HDD. And I want to Hide almost 400GB. So, I cannot create a new volume due to to lack of space in external drive.

In that case, what level of security are you looking for?

If your needs are basic, then you can just create a password-protected zip file or something and make it a hidden file in Windows. If you need something that can foil a professional data retrieval specialist, TrueCrypt-style full disk encryption is pretty much the only choice.
