Hey all. So here's my dilemma. I'm install a small nettop PC in a car for an in-dash display. I'm interfacing with particular hardware, so I'm stuck with Windows. So far the nettop PC I'm using boots, sleeps, and wakes up quite fast, however the problem is that for the 1 or 2 seconds before it sleeps the OS displays a "Please Standby" message. Anyway know of a way to remove/hide the message? Trying to be as discrete as possible, so would like to keep any OS messages away. Thanks in advance.

Probably not, that would require either a Registry change, or an OS hack. Neither of which I know much about.

If your using XP, try TweakUI. Its a Windows Powertoy.

If it is windows XP I would not try to disable them but maybe just replace them with a black screen. It should be one of these:
On your c:\ drive (root directory)
LOGO.SYS startup screen
LOGOS.SYS shutdown screen
LOGOW.SYS "wait to shutdown" screen
Not sure about the location for Vista and Win 7. Disable will probably be harder than replacing them with a custom screen that can be all black if you want. -
Thanks folks, appreciate the tips. Flipfire, couldn't find any settings to accomplish this in TweakUI unfortunately. Wave, this sounds promising, I'll give this a shot.

1. Start > Run > gpedit.msc > Click OK
2. In the Group Policy window select Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System.
3. On the right, double-click the "Remove Boot / Shutdown / Logon / Logoff status messages" setting and select Enabled, click Apply and OK. -
Hide/remove boot, logon and logoff screens and messages?
