Hi, I'm getting about 30% CPU usage overall as reported by the CPU meter gadget and most of the resources are going towards a program called WUDFHost.exe (which ranges from about 15-20%).

What is this process and why is it taking up this much CPU processing power?

That program is a key component of windows presentation foundation. I can imagine that it's normal for a machine, especially one that is running a heavy load of Aero and gadgets, to have a lot of resources attached to that particular process.

Basically your computer is burning up resources to fuel that CPU meter gadget. Isn't that ironic? :D

It's usually an external (USB) device that causes the CPU usage.
Are there any devices that have been recently added?
You could use Process Explorer to dig deeper what is causing the high usage.

Not just added devices... any drivers you've recently upgraded? I've seen cruddy drivers cause things like that.

I have a Seagate Freeagent Go plugged into the USB and a logitech revolution MX.

The machine does not seem to be slowing down or anything. I just want to know if this would eventually hinder performance as well as if it will be draining battery when I'm mobile.
