    Higher resolution virtual desktop by scaling/zooming out?

    Anybody know of an application or hack that supports such a thing?

    The result would be something like this:

    (the resolution of my laptop's screen is 1280x800 - the desktop is 1920x1200 scaled down)

    Never done that, but I do use VirtuaWin for multiple virtual desktops.

    I don't think Windows is really built to have a larger viewport than the physical area.

    I think that was a feature of older display drivers(and iirc it was only Intel ones that really did that).

    I can't think of a program that can actually do that.

    I think you can do that by changing the DPI. Go to

    Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Display

    and to the left, select 'set custom DPI' and try out different DPI values and see what suits you.

    This is for Win7 only though.

    I was hoping, but unfortunately you can only make text larger, not smaller.

    CTRL+mousewheel scroll on desktop, it makes the icons also smaller. A lot :) Not text tho, but it might help a bit.
