I'm trying to clean install new GPU drivers on my laptop but every time I reinstall, even when my internet is disabled, it will go and install the 'suggested ones', Nvidia 195 series, which are currently flakey and cause my screen to lock up.

And YES I have done this stage and rebooted:

Control Panel > System and Maintenance > System > Tasks (side panel) > Advanced System Settings > Hardware (tab) > Windows Update Driver Settings > Never check for drivers when I connect a device.

The problem is, Local Group Policy Editor does not exist in Windows 7 Home Premium so I can't switch off the service there either...

I need to know where in the registry I can create a key to switch OFF auto driver installation.

I googled it, but I just get results for vista and the registry tree structure is different.

    1. Press Windowskey+Pause to open system properties.
    2. Click the "Change settings" link.
    3. Select the "Hardware" tab.
    4. Click "Device installation settings".

Alternatively, enter "installation" into the Start menu textbox and select the appropriate item.
