    Hi
I have just bought an Acer laptop which came with home premium 32 bit.
I have an option of upgrading to Vista ultimate 32 vs 64 bit from my uni(free).
Which one should I choose ? Or should I stick to home premium as vista ultimate will expire in 2 yrs when I graduate.
    Thanks for your input.

once you graduate they revoke the license? that sucks. well if your like me and hate redoing your pc then i would stay with home premium. you wont really gain anything special when you go to ultimate Just dream scene, some games, and that bit locker thing. the only nice thing would be 64 bit. but unless your using 64 bit programs its not really worth it either. if you don't mind redoing your pc in 2 years go for it, if not home premium is fine.

In 2 years Windows 7 may be out.

According to the rumors stating that MS is going to get back on track with 2-3 years between OS releases.

    Who knows?

Yeah I'd keep Premium rather than deal with downgrading in two years. Unless there's some particular feature of Ultimate that really matters to you.

ultimate can make full system backup images, like Mac's time machine
so you don't need extra backup software

You can always use 3rd party software anyway... look into this thread, i'll mostly use and more confidence with 3rd party software instead of windows integrated one.

I'll choose to stay with home premium since ultimate does not offer any practical advantage IMO.

i wasnt putting it down, i use it my self and love it. i was just saying that its unnecessary for him to go to 64 bit, unless hes using 64bit applications.

andyasselin its not really that bad getting drivers for 64 bit.

New stuff doesn't have problems with x64 drivers.
