I know all the tricks to disable the "Recent Documents" and all that but what I want to know is how do I disable the Document History that is listed under the File menu of applications? I've had no luck with Google.

Here are a couple of examples:

I use Windows XP and would like to keep my Website URLs. Thank you everyone.

I dont know how to disable it but you could try looking around in the properties window you get from right-clicking the taskbar. I am pretty sure CCleaner can get rid of the recent file history. It gives you options on what to delete when you run the cleaner, so you can save stuff in other applications.

I'm on the same boat as him.

I have CCleaner. I know it can clear it and all but that's not what he wants. I've tried TweakUI and there's an option to disable document history but it apparently it doesn't work. It seems so simple too. Surely there's a way?

Before doing anything with the registry, make sure that you back it up(file-export). Also to get to the Registry editor its Start-run-type 'Regedit' in the open box.

The easiest way to delete that type of history would be to use Registry Crawler or RegScanner and search for the filename(s) that you want to erase. I don't think there's a way to disable it entirely.

Each application can have it's own recently used list. CCleaner or the like is the simplest way to flush them all.
