    Hi folks,

Q1: Has anyone heard of or used this Freeware "Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector 1.01"?

    http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php

Q2: Is it useful tool to have around?

Q3: Is it "SAFE" to use something like this? Or would Xirrus be getting info off of

    your PC also?

Q4: How is this product different than Vista's own Network Finder Tool?

Any Other Input that I did not thnik of!?!?

    Thanks,

    G! :)

It looks a little gimicky, but I have a lot of similar tools installed on my laptop under Linux, and they are useful. However, the radar graph is bogus. The only way to know the location is to have atleast two laptops deployed, but ideally, three, and all locations must be known.

They do produce interesting wifi hardware though, so I would say they are reputible.

If your laptop has 2 antenas you can determine the direction of the source of the signal - and with 3 antennas you could actually determine where the signal is comming from exactly.

Only one Requirement - th antenas need to be in different positions on the laptop and the software needs to know how the antennas are positioned relative to each other...

Looks interesting... but I doubt I'll try it... my Vaio is runnig to well, I don't want to mess it up....
