Well I don't think i'm doing anything illegal since I'm not linking to any external website hosting the final SP1.
This is just a command prompt hack that allows Vista to see the final build of the SP1 via Windows Update:
1) Run command prompt as an administrator.
2) Paste the following commands and hit enter:
- reg delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\VistaSp1 /f > NUL 2>&1
- reg delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\VistaSP1 /f > NUL 2>&1
- reg add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\VistaSp1 /v Beta1 /t REG_SZ /d dcf99ef8-d784-414e-b411-81a910d2761d /f
3) Reboot
4) Run Windows update, you will find an update, install then reboot again.
5) Run windows update, you find another update, install then reboot.
6) Run Windows update, you will find the final version of SP1.
-
pal, you mean it is already hosted on WU?
why is it 'invisible' then? still don't get it...
And what are the two updates mentioned in #4 and #5? -
MS did that in SP1 RC
you have to install some updates before getting the SP -
I'm going to wait for some more people do it before I try...I hate touching the registry.
-
Ah you're not changing anything drastic dude! All you are doing is a little reg tweak for Windows update to see those hidden updates.
I cannot try it over here because we have a major internet problem all over the middleeast due to some cable in the sea being disconnected somewhere in Egypt or India. I can see the update through Windows update but the downloading process is actually about 1 KB/S due to this problem. -
Question: "How To Install Vista SP1 Final via Windows Update"
Answer: Wait for it to appear. -
I'm not saying it doesn't work, I just don't see the point to it. Vista works fine right now and whenever SP1 shows up on Windows Update, I'll install it. That's just my take on it. I don't feel the need to spend my time hacking my system to get something a few weeks earlier if everything works fine now.

yeah I see no point in "hacking" for an update, if its not public yet there is a reason no matter how small or stupid it may be.
Plus I have been using Vista for so long with no issues, I infact wont update right away even when it IS availble just to see the feedback from others.
The saying goes "if it aint broke dont fix it" and it holds very true often times in situations like this. -
It's a little faster. Anyway, it's the final build, the RTM.
-
I know it's the final build. Anyways, it's good to hear that Vista runs a little faster with it. That's pretty similar to what people were saying when SP1 RC was released: that Vista seemed a little more responsive than before.
-
There was no need for that. I suggest you delete your post. Don't worry, I'll delete the quote if you do.
-
-
Oh ok. Sorry I misinterpreted your post.
-
Besides the fact that you might have copied it from my hack I see no point in you getting so worked up. I have posted it before and now all you wanna do is get credit for it. That's it. And watch your language.
-
It's cool dude, rep point added for u -
Say something now, don't just stand there...
PS: So that you know, when you make a thread here it becomes public, so everyone can post. This is a public forum, not your forum. -

Both of you stop getting so worked up, this is not new even from the guy who says he posted it first, we had this information months ago!
We even had people test it and had negative feedback and thats why I wont d/l it even if it says final, untill its public even a final build can be revised or changed. Also those who had the problems had a really hard time rolling back from the changes. -
I got it from here yesterday:
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/...l-windows-vista-sp1-rc1-via-windows-update/2/ -
I see. It wasn't clear when I was reading through that first post that the link was referring to a registry hack.
-
I don't like manually doing stuff, so I like it done for me. Anyone can see what's inside the hack, so no risks there (it will not mess with your files or screw something up).
-
@OP : Thanks for the post, I didn't see the tweak in the other threads.
-
What I meant is that with a little bit of formatting you can make it much clearer in your first post that SP1 is available via Windows Update through a registry hack.
To exemplify this:
-
Yeah, OK, will do.
People don't see because they don't want to.
-
Posted a response in your SP1 thread, but long story short, thanks for editing your first post.
-
This thread has nothing to do with release dates nor did I even mention anything about it. Simply says how to get Windows Update to show the final release of Vista SP1.
kthxbye -
This hack will allow your Operating System to see the update -
Oh, almost forgot what I wanted to ask:
I want to format my laptop, to be honest I have been putting it off so I can install SP1. I don't feel like waiting another couple of weeks.... would this give me the final SP1 build? The same exact copy that I will be getting in a few weeks automatically? I don't want to format and go through everything and find out I got a boned copy of SP1 that doesn't have all the updates. But if its going to be the same exact copy, then I will just go ahead and do it now.... thanks.Oh and this have the build number in the corner and **** and whatever.... or is the final copy period...... thanks
-
Yes this will give you the final sp1 build
Just go ahead and install it... I'm gonna do the same, after a format!
-
About the little annoying watermark that appears in the bottom corner, I am not sure, as I am still downloading the SP (very slow internet due to a major area problem), once I install I will confirm this.
But even if let's say the annoying water mark did appear. I know just the perfect way to remove itFear not!
-
I installed sp1 using this method, complete success no water mark
-
you should read these 1st ad have a good read, it doesnt sound like its the final release and is a betre testing pre release ??? im no expert mind

Not sure of the size, but they were both fairly small. -
I installed both updates, restarted, but it says no new updates :[

SP1 has NOT been released publicly yet via Windows Update. It is currently only available on Windows Update via the registry hack. -
ive not installed it yet tho -
Or maybe you should just read this post, this is explaining how and where to get the release, not on WU, but separately, as a standalone update...

It's somewhere on page 4, and on page 5 you can find a post of mine proving that this is the real deal (with a MD5 checksum). -
