Windows Internet Explorer 8 is showing up in my add/remove programs, and I have the IE7 installer. I know the beta and RC versions of IE8 would automatically rollback to IE7 during the uninstall process, is the RTM version the same way? If it's not automatic should I bother with the uninstaller, or just run the IE7 installer and install over IE8?

    I'm running Windows XP SP3, 32bit.

No thanks, I don't like dedicating half a gig of memory to my browser.

Anyone actually want to answer the question?

IE takes up probably just as much, it is just hidden in various processes throughout the operating system.

P.S.: My FF3 install is using about 103M of memory right now, rarely ever goes above 256M and that is when I am doing a lot with the program.

I'm just trying to be helpful, you don't need to tell a moderator on this forum to sod off. Or any member for that reason, when they try to help you.

You should be able to remove it from Add/Remove Programs, and it should roll back to IE7. I'm going to try and remove it from one of my test machines right now; I'll let you know how it goes.

These all seem to refer to Beta and RC versions, not the the RTM version. The last link is also specifically for Vista.

Not really related to the question. I have the option to uninstall already, I want to know if the uninstaller rolls it back, or removes it completely. What does this utility do, and is it meant for use with the IE8 RTM?

How exactly is that helpful? Does Firefox come with a utility that rolls back Internet Explorer to a previous version? Every IE related topic is flooded with responses from Firefox users, it's not helpful, it's annoying- and I'm pretty shocked a moderator would engage in it. As I said, answer the question or sod off. I'm fully aware there is an open source browser lots of elitists champion, its irrelevant to this topic.

It removes IE8, and puts back IE7 like it was never gone.

Add/Remove Programs did the trick. IE7 is back and my Favorites and such are still there

Regardless of what version of Windows you have, I'm pretty sure the uninstallation process would be about the same.

You're probably the first person on the forum to ask about rolling back. I'd make a backup of all your bookmarks and stored information/passwords, and try it and let us know. It won't remove IE completely, I'm sure of that. So chances are it would roll back to IE7.

Firefox is definitely useful if your rollback/uninstallation program fubars Internet Explorer and you need to reinstall using an IE7 installer. At least in my experience, MS rollbacks sometimes cause more issues than they correct so I always have a backup plan just in case. Other than that, yes I understand it isn't relevant. But IE probably uses just as much memory as FF does, which was the main point of my post.

But you don't need to attack people over it.

Don't attack me, but Opera is better than both.

    Yeah, it's actually not, though.

That doesn't really explain how it's helpful. For starters I said I already had the IE7 installer, and thus wouldn't need a different browser to find it. It's pretty obvious the Firefox link wasn't meant as "here's a backup plan just in case it messes up" but rather the "DURRR USE FIREFOX ITS LIKE WAY BETTER" seen in all browser topics. Additionally, claiming any version of IE has similar memory hogging issues as Firefox is a bald faced lie, I'm sure you've used IE and know what you claim isn't true - you're just being a crank on the issue to defend a trolling reply. For future reference, "answer the question or sod off" is a good code to live by in tech support request topics in general.

Thanks to those who actually provided helpful information. I've rolled back without any issues and everything seems to be working fine now.

    Nu-uh!

Also, FireFox is better! That is why it is recommended so much!

Its been a while since I've used XP, and I haven't used W7 at all. But I'm surprised it would be drastically different between the three operating systems. Oh well...

Trolling reply or no, just pointing out what I know. I didn't catch that you already had the IE7 installer, you could have been a bit nicer in pointing that out.

If it isn't useful to you, fine with me. I don't care...I have my preferences, you have yours. At least I understand that, as opposed to some fanboys that you probably will encounter on the forum.

But if you want to continue down this line of argument, if anyone wants to continue along this line of argument, and starts making an IE/FF war out of this thread too...it will be closed. Same applies if you keep telling people to screw off.

As requested, lets keep this thread on topic. Okay?

Opera, Firefox, whatever. The OP is asking about IE, lets keep it on track.

Well, since the OP questions has been answer, I am closing this early to prevent an additonal flamewar.

All brands,OSs,browsers, worlds, religions, etc have their pros and cons...just choose the best one suitable for your needs/wants.
