On XP you right click on the desktop to and click properties, go to screen saver, choose 5 minutes, and click on resume password protect. I have no idea for vista

In Vista, right click on the Desktop, click Personalize, go to Screen Saver, Choose 5 minutes and select On Resume, Display Logon Screen.

Thanks for the advice, but it does not work. It does not ask for a password when it restarts.

There is a setting on the screen saver tab that asks if you want to prompt for password upon resuming (I think, I'm on the work computer right now, no screensavers :( ) that you can change. You also have to have your user account setup with a login password for this to work. Since I'm the only one at home that uses my computer I don't have one, so you could be the same way and you can add the password in user accounts.

Please consider the power option(put the display to sleep) instead of screen saver as it doesn't save anything about the screen(that was designed for the ancient green mon) and in general keep the machine in an active state that use more power(thus create more heat).

XP. I am not sure why it is not working. I have it set to prompt for password when it reenters Windows, but I never set up a password. Where do I setup a password. I want to use my fingerprint reader as the password.

I don't know about the fingerprint reader as part of the password so I don't know if that will work or not. To set the typed password go into control panel and then select user accounts and then pick your account and click create a password.

Yep, it will not let me use my fingerprint reader as a password for some reason.

Isn't the fingerprint reader just to get past the bios? I've never had one so I don't know but I would guess that the fingerprint reader is before the os starts to load.

Laptops at Best Buy have it set up so it requires a fingerprint or a password to get passed the screen saver.

I have nothing that will help with the fingerprint reader, either. Sorry!
