is it possible that your hdd is formatted with fat 32 ?

that filesystem does not allow big files. ( i think the limit is 2 GB ).

^ Yeah try reformatting to NTFS and see if it works.

Or you could also try using TeraCopy.

well, then your oprion would be to reformat the external hdd to ntfs. you can format it with the windows onboard tools.

do you intend to use the hdd with a mac ? i remember a friend ( macbook pro osx 10.4 ) having problems with my external hdd ( ntfs). he could read the files on my hdd, but he definatly can not write s single file onto my hdd.
hope apple has fixed that with 10.5.

so if you do not intend to plug the hdd to an apple NTFS would be your best option.

right click on the drive ( or it´s partitions ) from explorer, you should see the formatting option in the context menu.

but be aware , all your files on that partition you are formatting will be overwritten. back up your files before formatting. ;)

you can´t see that during copying. to see your hdd speed you would need a program that measures hd performance ( eg. hdtach)

Its all there.. you just have to click ok to proceed. You may want to chose quick format (which I assume is the one clickable box!!!) It gets done quicker... *btw, is that German??*

Anyway, those values in there are fine. You can go ahead with the reformat with those.

Doesn't the quick format only delete the file system??

Thus your files would still be perfectly legible with any retrieveal tool??

And I think there is a limit for file sizes on NTFS - only it's rather high... (maybe I'm wrong though)
