    once you download all the updates within windows update, it will show up and then you can install sp1. if you already did that and it doesn't show up, then that means that you have drivers that are not capable with sp1 and that you would have to wait until the manufactor makes sp1 capable drivers for vista and then you would be able to install...

    SP1 may not have shown up for you because of a driver incompatiblity- http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=948343

    You need to check and update all drivers to have it show up automatically. Make sure you choose to install all updates from Windows update (restore any ones you hid)

    To find the windows version number open the run dialog box-windows key + R. Type "winver" without quotes in the box. Click OK.
