To save ink, I want to print everything a slightly light color other than black , even if the file shows as all black fonts on the screen. How do you do this? Also I am having a prints problem where everything smudges as it is coming out. The first page came out ok but the other pages were smudged and unreadable. It was a music sheet file.

I think you'd have to manually edit the font so it's the color you want, then print the edited file. From what I can recall, printing properties dialogue windows only give you the option of printing in black/greyscale or color. If the file has no color, you'd have to edit the file or look into your advanced printing properties (or use the software that came with the driver).

As for the smudging, are you using an inkjet printer or a color laserjet printer? If you're using the former, try doing a cleaning and calibration.

Use your printer manufacturer's software, or do this for calibration, and this for cleaning.

Also knowing what printer your talking about would help as well cause that general of a problem without specific hardware makes it hard for others to know if that affect their printer as well. So I always ask poster at least give us hardware and software specs so we know what your talking about to begin to give help????

I think in a very basic, general inquiry like this, it's safe to divulge a very basic, general answer. Although I agree to an extent, as knowing at least the manufacturer, we could provide screenshots of the software for configuration examples and how-to guides for cleaning + calibration. :)
