If Windows 7 has become available to everyone when purchasing a new laptop, does Vista still have a market? How many people will still prefer to buy a new laptop with Vista business instead of Windows 7?
(I know there must be some who may have got used to Vista and don't feel the need to change, but wonder how many, since it appears Win 7 is in every way superior, and I'm talking about buying a NEW laptop.)

You get a free upgrade to 7, so it doesn't really matter, not to mention very few laptops still come with Vista.

WINDOWS 7 is flowing like hot butter for me, except when I come out of sleep mode. CPU 100%! Might have to do something with power4gear program, switching between ac and battery power.

I don't think there's anything fundamentally different between the two that would make one want to choose Vista over 7 when it comes to a new PC. I think the only Vista laptops left are the ones still remaining from before the transition date, and outlet machines.

When I first put Windows 7 on my laptop, I grew to dislike using Vista on my laptop and desktop. It eventually got to the point when I couldn't stand using Vista on my desktop anymore, so I decided to set up another dual boot.
I know that I certainly don't prefer using Vista anymore, and I'm sure that most people in this forum would agree.
A poll would have helped too. -

yeah, still using vista has no point, if only for the sole reason that you have to ask someone about some problem you have. the first reply? you use vista? fix that!!! will be SOOOO BORING
if there is no financial difference, get win7 -
Are most programs already compatible with W7 ?

Vista is essentially the same as Win7 - so if you can save money by using Vista, that's the market.
I'm sure you'll find some cheap Vista licenses where stores would like tog et rid of stock
And in terms of speed once it runs - Vista is no different to Win7. -

there is a weird booting bug with the latest OpenSolaris.
FreeBSD only if it supports my laptop fullying including Nvidia Display Driver for FreeBSD 64bit -
For me Vista worked the first time I installed it, detecting hardwares appropriately. Win7 on the other hand didn't. It didn't detect the bluetooth device I had in my laptop. Win7 is essentially an improved Vista underneath as evidenced by using Vista drivers for hardwares/softwares. It stikes me funny that XP users hated Vista and jumped to Win7 with much fanfare and it's basically the same OS! Microsoft really pulled one over their eyes.

Eg. I have a start up program that requires loading Winring0 library
Vista took 3minutes after Desktop to load it. Windows 7 load it even BEFORE I logon.
You can feel it during booting and even so I wasn't complaining on Vista since the system had enough RAM.
The Vista hating was slightly blown out of proportions. -
Windows 7 all the way. XD
Even my cousins and friends all get Windows 7 already.
The remaining friends who used Vista is very little which included me.
My AS6920G have some problem with Windows 7. So, switched back to Vista.
My old desktop doesn't support Windows 7, so, Vista. LOL.
My current desktop uses Windows 7.
Salesmen and MS tries to sell all the remaining Vista with cheaper prices now I guess. It's to clear stocks because no one will want to buy Vista anymore. Last time, XP users didn't want to move to Vista. Now, majority of them changed to 7 and majority of Vista users can't stand Vista anymore and moved to 7. LOL.
So, Windows 7 might be over populated soon. -
If you have the means, go for Windows 7.
But this isn't saying that Vista isn't a good OS, which it is, and it will do all the tasks you need. -
Yup, 7 all they way. The new hotness.

It is not a App issue. -
In addition to everything else that's been posted above, one additional important point for me, is that I like to wait until, at least SP1 of a new Microsoft OS before I purchase it --- at least that way, Microsoft has gotten the primary bugs out. It's worked very well for me so far, and I will do the same thing with Windows 7. Meanwhile, I've gotten to know and like Vista very much, so I have no major complaints with Vista, and can patiently wait for Microsoft to make its early changes to Windows 7.

My classmates also agree Windows 7 is good. But I know someone who is still on Vista cause the 7 prices here a quite high, and there's no family pack here :|.
I'm sticking with XP for now, until I get a legit copy of 7. And yeah, I badly want 7 on this. It used to have a beta build 7201, but crashed like crazy.

Personally i think Vista is rather ok so i will not spend any money upgrading my Vista computer to Win7 but if i bought a new computer i would without a doubt get one with Win7.
How desirable is Vista now, now that we have Windows 7?
