I have a MSI A6200-206US notebook using Windows 7 Home Premium. In Control panel / POWER OPTIONS / Change Power Settings there's a section called POWER BUTTONS & LID and I can select DO NOTHING for when the notebook lid is closed while the notebook is still powered on.
I'd like very much to be able to have the notebook POWER ON after shut down, when I open the lid. Is there any way to do this in WIndows 7 ? Thanks

If your notebook doesn't wake up out of sleep or suspend by opening the lid, you can't make it. It's a feature of the system's ACPI lid sensor. The lid sensor is controlled by the BIOS, so it's nothing Windows can change. And no notebook that I know of will start up from a shutdown state, by simply opening the lid.

I am pretty sure you can not do this. It would need to be controlled by the bios and not windows, since windows is not loaded after shut down.
You can check your bios for such a function but I have never seen one.
I dont think there is any way to do this with software. A hardware mode might work but you would lose warranty. The sensor that detects the lid closing should be able to detect the lid opening also. So somehow this sensor would need to be connected to the power switch. -
is it really that much of a pain pushing the button? it takes 1 whole second.

But I have to say it is not a bad idea to give the user this option of operating the laptop.
