I just upgraded my Asus laptop from Vista to Windows 7 via the free upgrade offer however after upgrading, my default (administrator) username has changed from my name to "Administrator" for some stupid reason![]()
Changing your username only changes how it's shown via the login screen and the startup menu, but it does not change the C:\Users username as it's still Administrator. I've read that you have to create a new admin account with the desired name, then login to it and delete the old account but I can't do this. When logged into the new account and I go to manage accounts in the control panel, I can delete the new account but there's no option to delete the original admin account. What am I meant to do? This is driving me nuts!

You can just disable it rather than delete it. First log into your new account that is part of the administrators group.
In the control panel navigate to 'Control Panel\System and Security\Administrative Tools' and select Computer Management. When that opens, select 'Local Users and Groups' and then 'Users'. Then right-click on Administrator and select Properties. Then check "Account is disabled". -
Thanks. Just found out that you can't delete this Administrator account nor can you change the folder name. I couldn't find any 'local users and groups' so I just followed this instead and I disabled it.

One interesting thing I found out is that every Vista or Windows 7 computer has this administrator account, except usually they're disabled and hidden by default.
From a site..
Unlike Windows XP where the built-in Administrator user account is created with blank password (no password) during Out-of-Box-Experience (OOBE) and simply hidden from the view of users, Windows Vista also by default will create a built-in Administrator account with empty password, but this Administrator account is disabled by default in all clean installations and upgrades of Windows Vista, including factory pre-installed Windows Vista from Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and system builders. The admin account is disabled in order to enhance the security protection of the system.
So before when I was on Vista, I actually had this administrator account but it was just disabled by default so I didn't know about it. And the c:\Users\Administrator folder won't be created until you've logged in once with that account, which is why it was never created when I was on Vista. But since Windows 7 booted up using the Administrator account first, the Administrator folder was created.
How do I change my C:\Users username in Windows 7??
