So I recently had my Latitude D830 wiped and had fresh reinstall of Vista Ultimate done by Dell. Unfortunately, they mispelled my name in the userid. Now, I didn't realize this until a bit too late and already installed a lot of my software and restored my data.

How can I change my username without affecting my data? I already log in using the fingerprint scanner, and I don't want to lose that as well as all my other data associated with the current username. Is there a tweak in the registry I could make to get this done?

You should be able to do that through the User Accounts utility in the Control Panel. I'm still learning my way around Vista, though, so I may be wrong on that.

No, I tried the User Account panel already but it only changes my display name within Vista. At logon and in various settings throughout Vista, my name is still misspelled.

A-ha, I figured it out. In the Start Menu, right click on Computer and select "Manage." Under Local Users and Groups, select "Users." From there I can change the name and display name of each user account!
