I set it to automatic defrag and everything but I am not so convinced it's defraging or doing anything.. How do I know or find out?

Open Windows' Task Manager, click the Processes tab, check for process "DKService.exe" (i.e., Diskeeper service).
-
What he said but it will not hurt to check the service too .
-
I have the Diskeeper Service but not the process. What does this mean?
-
Im not positive, but I think if its not in processes, its not running.
-
Thats very weird. It's set to enable though!
-
Did you try retarting? Remember, I'm not positive about that.

When you open the Diskeeper, click on the dashboard tab, scroll down till you see, Idle Resources Used by Diskeeper, just above it you will see a round indicator, it will be either gray (not working) or green (working), right beside the indicator will be messages updated regularly to what diskeeper is doing or about to do as it is waiting for inacivity on your computer, then it will start to defrag.
Look lower and you will see the active graph, and below the graph, it will tell you what files it is currently defraging.
If still in doubt, click on the log tab and it will tell you how many fragments it put back together each day. -
Yes, DKservice.exe will tell you whether the Diskeeper service is active.
And to check what file it's processing in automode, just open up the dashboard as Kurat said.
The moving graph informs you about the resource usage, and the green light indicates that defrag is active, along with the file it's processing.
How do I know if Diskeeper 2009 is running in the backround?
