I have always used 32 bits windows...and always purchased and utilized system mechanic professional to maintain the integrity of windows...i.e. cleaning junks..defrag...and registry cleaning.

Now with my new Gateway P6860FX 64 bits vista..system mechanics adv me they do not currently support 64 bits windows. Any suggestion on which program is good for this functions?

CCleaner for clearing temporary directories and maintaining the registry, JKDefrag or AusLogics defrag for keeping the filesystem continuous.

CCleaner. It's free, and better. Buy PerfectDisk x86-64 for defragging.

Don't worry about it. Defrag is built in, a disk cleanup tool is built in (although cache files are there to speed things up... so don't clean them up too often), and a few extra registry keys lying around don't really do anything. However, CCleaner should be mostly harmless if you really feel the need to run something.

Ccleaner kept messing up some folder and file view settings on my Vista-32 HP a while ago, since then I've never used it on Vista. :(
But it still works great on XP though. :)

So, for Vista, I use only Vista's inbuilt cleaner for disk cleanups and Diskeeper 2k8 pro for defragging.

I never let a registry cleaner anywhere get within 10 feet of my system :D
