Enough of my experimentation and trying different things. How do I reformat my harddrive and reinstall XP? I have the XP disk (no recovery disk) and the drivers disk. I only have a CD drive and external Dvd burner without a floppy drive. Anyone? Thank you in advance.

boot to your XP CD (make sure your BIOS is set to boot from CD before HD or hit F8 during startup) and follow the prompts

Thank goodness for technical support. I just reformatted the drive and I have no Drivers disk. They said they would send one. Dell is very good, IMO. Especially since this was my goof up. I had Win XP without drivers....OOPS.

I did notice that I cannot hibernate though just on the XP. Any thoughts?

Talk about going out without a paddle. It is good I can still surf on the PDA.

I don't understand your hibernation question. You have to enable it in power settings.

When I open the power settings and look at the options for what the computer should do if I close the lid, hibernation is not an option. Is that hibernation setting somewhere else? Thanks for the reply, Brian.

There should be a "Hibernate" tab in your power settings. Right click your battery icon and click "Adjust Power Properties". Go to the "Hibernate" tab and check the box that says "Enable hibernation".

Since I didn't have the drivers for my PC, the hibernate function was not an option. When the drivers were installed, all problems ceased. Thank goodness for Dell sending me the disks today. They were also very helpful with technical support.
