I have quite a few files on my laptop which I deleted, and then emptied the recycle bin. At least, I thought I had deleted them. But alas, when I enter partial searches in the Start menu, the files are still coming up, albeit that Vista informs me that the file has been moved or something and would I like to delete the shortcut? when I click on the link. So, how do I go delete these files from my laptop, as in wiping all trace of them from the machine once and for all?

Where are these files? In the Recent document folder? If yes you find them here:

    C:\Documents and Settings\[User name]\Recent
Just delete them like normal files.
Word, Excel and so on also has a last used documnets list. You can reset it in the option.

Also you can try running Disk Cleanup from the Programs/Accessories/System tools folder.

I downloaded them off Limewire and Azureus and they are stored in a subfolder in the Downloads folder (I have Vista Home Premium btw).

Did you download any cracks or keygens by any chance? It may be a virus/spyware
