I am trying to get RivaTuner 2.06 to start up and automatically load my settings when Vista boots. However, Vista just keep blocking the program at startup and then tells me later that the program was blocked.

How do I get RivaTuner to load automatically and not get blocked by Vista?

You will not see when applications will potentially meddle with important system settings or files.

You should be able to set Rivatuner to run at startup with admin privilages through the Task scheduler. Just type task scheduler in the search box hit enter and follow the prompts to create a new task. Make sure to enable 'run with admin prviliages' checkbox during the process. This should allow you to run programs which need admin access without Defender/UAC prompts blocking it.

As long as you know what you're doing, you shouldn't need Vista's warnings. :D

The problem is the vast majority of people that think they don't need UAC do indeed need it very badly.
The people who think they are "safe" by definition do NOT know what they are doing.

If it is plugged in and connected to a network of any kind while you are away from the keyboard (or if you are occasionally away from your brain... drunk, etc) you should leave UAC on.

The only "safe" time to shut off UAC is on a clean install. Any user files that were created while UAC was active could disappear so those would all have to be relocated.
That's only the half of it too, the programs that created those files are going to expect them to be where they were written so you would have to deal with that headache too. You should be able to get RT to start at boot without having to turn off UAC. Try the task scheduler, maybe there's a permissions box that needs to be checked or something.

I always know what I am doing.

But I dont telepathically see what particular application does "under the hood".

Sometimes good-looking apps try to meddle with system settings they in my opinion shouldnt. UAC gives me a good indication when any app tries to do so. Then when my system starts to misbehave I have at least a lot more terse list of apps to blame.

Honestly, MS should have went the route of linux or osx. By default, you are logged in as user, if you need to do "admin" stuff, the supply the password to temporarily elevate your priviledges. I do this on all my computers and imop, it should be the preferred way of doing things.

MS gave too much power to the average joe and it really bit them on the ass because of all the spyware/malware/bloatware crap.

This is related although I'm certain UAC is out of the question, basically Vista stops my NHC program from running at startup. When I look at the dialog box it's actually windows defender doing the blocking. However I can't seem to tell defender that Notebook hardware control is a safe program and that it doesn't have to block the startup every single time my PC starts up. Anyone have any ideas?

is that the same thing as typing in msconfig and going to startup? Thanks
