I have Vista Basic installed right now, and I just bought Ultimate. Do I just put the ultimate CD in and it will upgrade? Or do I have to uninstall stuff before I put it on? Thanks!

I don't know for sure, but Microsoft tends to make these things easy to do. I would just put the CD or DVD in and see what happens with AutoPlay. If nothing happens, try executing "autorun.exe" in the CD or DVD. If you have to uninstall something, they will probably tell you to do that.

It would be better to reformat your computer, but if you want to upgrade, put the cd/dvd in the drive, and reboot your computer. Click next and follow the instructions, it will let you know that all the stuff in the current windows folder will be put into a folder named Windows.old, then it will ask you to continue. Do this and by the time you get to the desktop, you'll have 2 windows folders, one named windows, and one windows.old. The windows.old will be obsolete, and is there for the sole purpose of going back to it if you want to go back to Vista basic, the way you have it now.
Hope this helps.. -
