or will i be able to cancel my pre order if i get a copy of RTM?

    cheers

The RTM is functionally equal to the retail, and activates with a retail key. If it is not activated, it will expire in 30 days, but can be extended to 120 days.

    1. You don't.
    2. You don't.

Technet/MSDN subscribers aren't allowed to give out keys or software.

Technically you could install an RTM version now (though downloading it would be illegal/grey area) and then buy a key for it on October 22nd. You may have to use the re-arm command (google "rearming Windows 7") a few times to keep it working till Windows 7 launch day. On launch day you could buy a copy of Windows 7 use the key it comes with to activate it without needing to reinstall Windows.

    1. As I said, and you ignored, RTM is the RETAIL. Much like pretty much every other Windows workstation OS, there's no legal "download" it without buying it.

    2. Asking someone to give out their MSDN/Technet keys is like asking them to give you their credit card information. Microsoft drops the hammer fast and hard when they find leaked keys. They cancel the account, yank all their keys, and definitely do NOT send the person a Christmas card that year.

    3. Offering Office 2010 is just flimsy.

Windows 7 RTM is Windows 7 that is the retail, end, final, finished, store, loaded on laptops, sold at local computer stores, TOTAL DONE OS. You want it, YOU BUY IT.

I have already bought Win 7 Pro E and if I wanted to have it earlier, would that be a crime too? Well, according to you, no, because I have already paid for it, I can get it and use it until I get me key.

Just hypothesizing here, I am not that impatient :)

Unless you're Technet, MSDN, or an OEM, you cannot legally get Windows 7 RTM at this time.
    Period.

How do I get a ferrari? Is it OK if my friend helps me steal one, as long as I steal a key from somewhere else? I'll give someone a Klondike Bar....

Just wait until official release. Win7 is good but it isn't THAT good to go through the hoops just to get it early.

sworry guys i was just asking as i dont fully understand the whole technet / msdn thing and how it works... and i didnt fully understand what RTM meant...

    thanks for clearing this up...

and as Szadzik said, i have paid for it so how is it illegal?

anyway nevermind thanks for answering my questions.

btw i was kinda joking about office 2010, i dont think its worrth squat anyway, if i did give it to someone for win7 it would be unfair as it would be like me giving you a pile of cr@p for a briliant OS like win7...

    cheers

I recommend nightly prayer to the Windows 7 fairy. It hasn’t worked for anyone that I know, but you just might be the lucky one. Alternatively, you could email Steve Ballmer and ask nicely, very nicely.

Technet copies are for technet subscribers, nobody else. MSDN copies are for MSDN subscribers, nobody else. You aren't either of those groups, and therefore it is illegal for you to have one of those copies.

I think everyone has already made that clear. There is clearly nothing else to be had from this thread. Closed?

The MSDN/Technet subscription is not free in any way - the title of this thread somehow implies that there is something free here (== no money involved). This is not the case. MSDN/Technet subscriptions are not free, and the software offered there is only licensed to persons who own an MSDN/Technet subscription. So even giving out the image file the subscriber is breaching the licence.

If you pay for your car but it will not be delivered for 2 months, that does not mean you can use the car of your neighbour, because it is the same make and model, just because you have already paid for yours. :)

How about a copy of MAC OS XI (code name 'PuddyTat') and 2 photocopy tickets to see a Metallica tribute band?

Huh? That is illegal, too, of course. It's called "software piracy", in case the lawyers of the companies whose software you pirated ask you...

I think he means and then no longer use it yourself.
Because MSDN and Technet are non-transferable.
    Retail software is.
