How do so many ppl have windows 7 RTM if windows 7 hasn't been released?

MSDN Subscribers get it through their subscriptions page, and as I'm a IT University Student, I get it through MSDN:AA.

and others get it from someone who has such an account (that was my case), without license, but you can rearm for 180 days or so, enough to get a license.
and others download it from some illegal hosting page, obviously. -
Got mine through my university, MSDN-AA or whatever.

Just get the sha1 number of the iso you need of win 7, and search on net for it. You can use on trial basis ofr 120 days without breaking ms eulu rules.
-
got mine before technet or msdn but i had to wait till technet started giving out keys to activate it.. everyone is correct though you can re-arm it 3 times after the initial 30days to give you 120 days. so you install it now and then when you get the key just put the key in later

-
MSDNAA here too.
Though I haven't installed it yet. Still on the RC lol...

Technet here, glad to see we are the few and the proud!
Wasn't there already a post that asked the same question? Also I think Microsoft is expanding it beyond MSDN-AA now and offering it to regular college students, Windows 7 Home Premium for $30 and Professional for $45.
I think this is brilliant marketing, float the product to all the tech savvy people and show off how good it is, I know so many people who are pre-ordering after having seen the RTM in action. -
Can someone explain to me how do you get Win 7 from MSDNAA? I checked up my school for MSDNAA and it was there, but I have no clue what else to do.

May I ask what RTM stands for? I've seen it a couple of time here and there and can't really get my fingers on what it is.

The term "release to manufacturing" or "release to marketing" (both abbreviated RTM)also known as "going gold"is used to indicate that the software has met a defined quality level and is ready for mass distribution either by electronic means or by physical media. RTM usually does not mean the software is actually released; it would in most cases mean that the software is being released to manufacturers, for pre-installation on ready machines, or for the manufacturer to adjust the software for their manufactured hardware and settings. The term does not define the delivery mechanism, it only states that the quality is sufficient for mass distribution. The deliverable from the engineering organization is frequently in the form of a gold master CD used for duplication or to produce the image for the web.
RTM happens prior to general availability (GA) when the product is released to the public. -
MSDNAA for me as well,
