I feel silly asking this, but I'm thinking about buying a notebook; however, they do not ship with disc anymore (except Samsung). I have a SSD that I would love to use in my future notebook.
Its been a while since I have bought a retail computer, but if I remember correctly you are usually given the option to burn a disc/DVD for system backup. I'm wondering, can this disc be used to install Windows OEM onto the SSD?
I'm NOT INTERESTED in cloning the drive, thanks.

Forgot to mention, I have a retail copy of Windows 7 Professional; could this disc be used to reinstall Windows Home Premium using the notebooks supplied OEM key?

I believe you can use the OEM key to install off a retail disk, as long as the version matches you'll just have to call it in to Microsoft.
If you still have the OEM install on the computer, you can also use a small little program called ABR to back up a few files off the OEM install and reinstall it to the clean OS once you're done. -
what lappy make are you buying as some oem suppliers do supply the OS disk and driver disk.
if you dont get the driver disk then it should be available on the companys support website.
as far as i know if its a windows 7 pro OEM disk then it will only have that version on it. if its a shop bought disk then once again as far as i know it will have all the versions.
How do you install OEM onto new drive?
