    With previous versions of Windows, you used to be able to say XP, Vista, NT, 2000, those were all acceptable. What is acceptable way to say and "Windows 7". "Windows Seven" just seems too long. If you just say "Seven" it seems odd, and reminds me of the movie, Win7 seems ok, what do you think?

    Been referring to it as Windows 7. Now that you mention it, I've never thought about "Windows 7" being long to say, but you do have a point.

    I only say Windows 7 or Win 7 at the start of the discussion. After that it just becomes 7.

    I refer it as Windows 7 for sure.
    Win7 , 7 or W7 are used if I want to save my time and reply fast on something.

    Vista is Windows 6.0

    Windows 7 is actually Windows 6.1

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

    Right Pane you see "CurrentVersion: 6.1"

    When I'm talking to people online I shorten it to Win7 and when I talk to people in real life I say Windows 7 of course. I hate it :p

    I won't slam it by calling it "Vista" anything, but I do call it "Windows 6.1 ."

    I will say "windows seven" but I like to write "w7".

    My favorite nickname is "7 of Gates" (a little Star Trek Borg flavor thrown in there).

    I predict that someday everybody will just call it "seven". (I haven't seen the poll results yet.)

    Windows 7, sometimes Win 7, sometimes Version 7. I don't call it "Seven" a lot.

    I won't honor it by calling it vista anything, as well. only vista is the real vista (and i will wait quite a while till i switch. mainly the moment the windows home server 2 comes out. till then, no use..)

    When I talk I mostly refer to it as "7", when I type, "Win7". I have to agree about the Windows 6.1 comments though, but its about as much Vista as 98SE is 98 or Win XP SP2 is none SP Win XP.

    I have friends who jokingly refer to Windows 7 as Windows Mojave, I think this is about the most fitting name for it.

    Wait a second? Windows 6.1? What's up with that?
    Can someone explain to me because I have no idea why Windows 7 would be referred as Windows 6.1.

    because it is just an updated windows vista? because it has the actual version 6.1? because it has the same underlying codebase as vista, unlike vista, which was a fresh start after xp?

    because in the server business there is

    vista -> windows server 2008
    win7 -> windows server 2008 R2 (Release 2)

    => why not win7 = vista R2? or as vista is win6.0, name win7 win6.1?

    or what ever.. yeah, they really messed that up, sort of :)

    I often call it "Windows uhh Shiny!" with a pitched voice for the uhh Shiny part (sounding like craig ferguson doing it's uuh-uhhh for salvator dali, and the giraffe), as that's what it is for me :)
    jokingly, of course :)
