How do you remember favorite programs?

I have a notecard with all the programs I download and like written on it (not including big programs like Office or Photoshop, just smaller programs like jkdefrag or pdf xchange viewer).

Hmmm... I do the same thing. Some times I just seem to forget if I have something or not.. most often, they are programs I use not so often... So I just write them down in a notepad file. :)

Why would you need to remember your favorite programs? Like if you got a new pc and want to DL your favorite programs on them? I just look at my main pc program list, and then install them on the new one. Or I remember them by thinking to myself what apps I use alot.

    Yeah I just remember.

I'm not saying I remember to install everything immediately after installing my OS. I usually wait till I need things. Like, hey, I can't read these PDF files... better install FoxIt. Or I need to edit that image... I'd better go download the GIMP. That kind of thing.

But as far as which are my preferred programs for each task... I just remember that.

I usually create a list and then print all my favorite stuff, programs, guides, websites with info such as "best free programs for..." etc..and keep them in a folder. I like to be organized in that way.

What? I am just wondering how people remember the programs they like. For example, if you try out a random new program and like it, do you write it down so if you get a new pc or something you can remember to install it on that new device.

Excel file. I usually, however, never consult it and just download the program I need when I need it.

Even if I forget (I know I won't), I'll just look into the old PC - for the Random New Program. :p
And if I like a program, I would actually use it quite often, i.e. CCleaner, GIMP, VLC, or even rthdribl etc etc, and I won't forget their names !!....

I save all my installers of apps on my external HD in a folder called "Apps".

This way I can easily load up everything I need. I also do Maintenance on my "Apps" folder like replacing installers with updated versions.

The Downloads folder in Vista makes it easy to do what I do: I periodically grab a DVD and burn all of the things to it, usually right before I reinstall Vista.

Keep them stored on an external storage device.

I do basically the same, except I just put the installers in an Apps folder on my desktop. I rarely use Windows at all anymore so don't make a big deal of it. If I remember to save the installers - good. If not - so be it. lol

Your way is better, though, saving on an external drive.

There's a feature on Ccleaner. If you go to Tools, there is a "Save to text file" button. Makes a .txt of currently installed programs.

Yup, that sure is a good tip. Forgot CCleaner had that feature. I kind of do the same but with Belarc advisor instead.
